Sir Isaac Newton (1643–1727) was an English mathematician, physicist and astronomer whose discoveries laid the foundations of classical physics and transformed scientific understanding. His landmark work Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, established the laws of motion and universal gravitation.
