John de Warenne, 6th Earl of Surrey (1231–1304), was a powerful English nobleman, soldier and landowner during the reigns of Henry III and Edward I. A member of the influential de Warenne family, he inherited extensive estates and became involved in the political and military struggles of medieval England. He fought for King Edward I during campaigns in Wales and Scotland and was involved in the English conquest of Wales and the Wars of Scottish Independence. Warenne was married to Alice de Lusignan, half-sister of King Henry III, although the marriage was later annulled. His long career reflects the power of the medieval English aristocracy and the role of noble knights in warfare, politics and royal service. He remains an interesting figure for collectors of medieval English history, knights and aristocratic military heritage.
