John McAleese (1949–2011) was a highly respected British Army soldier and member of the Special Air Service, best known for his role in the Iranian Embassy Siege in London in 1980. Serving as part of the SAS assault team, McAleese became one of the most recognisable figures of Operation Nimrod, which ended the six-day siege at the Iranian Embassy in Prince’s Gate. His bravery and composure during the dramatic operation contributed to the legendary reputation of the SAS. McAleese later served in other military operations before retiring from the Army.
