Marc Bolan (1947–1977), born Mark Feld, was an English singer, songwriter and guitarist who became the leading figure of the glam rock movement through his band T. Rex. With his distinctive voice, glittering costumes, curly hair and charismatic stage presence, Bolan helped define the glamorous visual style of early 1970s rock music. T. Rex achieved major hits including Ride a White Swan, Get It On, Metal Guru and Children of the Revolution. Bolan’s influence extended far beyond his short career, inspiring artists across glam rock, punk and alternative music. He died in a car accident in London on 16 September 1977, just weeks before his 30th birthday, becoming an enduring icon of British rock.
