Catherine of Aragon was born on 16 December 1485 at Alcalá de Henares in Spain and was the daughter of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon. She first married Prince Arthur, eldest son of Henry VII, in 1501, but he died in 1502. Catherine subsequently married Henry VIII in 1509 and became Queen of England. She gave birth to several children, but only her daughter Mary survived infancy. Henry’s desire for a male heir led to his attempt to annul their marriage, contributing to the break with Rome. Their marriage was declared invalid in 1533, and Catherine spent her final years at Kimbolton Castle. She died on 7 January 1536 and was buried at Peterborough Cathedral.
