Henry VII was born on 28 January 1457 at Pembroke Castle and became King of England in 1485 after defeating Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field. His victory ended the Wars of the Roses and established the Tudor dynasty. To strengthen his claim, Henry married Elizabeth of York in 1486, uniting the rival houses of Lancaster and York. His reign focused on restoring royal finances, strengthening government and reducing the power of troublesome nobles. The Perkin Warbeck rebellion in the 1490s was one of several challenges to his authority. Henry also arranged the marriage of his son Arthur to Catherine of Aragon. He died on 21 April 1509 at Richmond Palace and was buried at Westminster Abbey.
