Prince George of Denmark was born on 2 April 1653 in Copenhagen and was the younger son of King Frederick III of Denmark. He married Princess Anne of England in 1683, becoming Duke of Cumberland. When Anne became Queen in 1702, George became her consort and was created Duke of Cumberland. He supported Anne during the political and military conflicts of her reign and served as Lord High Admiral. Although the couple had numerous pregnancies, none of their children survived infancy, creating a succession problem. George died on 28 October 1708 at Kensington Palace, aged 55. He was buried at Westminster Abbey alongside Queen Anne after her death.
