Anne Boleyn was born around 1501 and became one of the most influential figures of the English Reformation. She attracted the attention of Henry VIII during the 1520s and married him secretly in January 1533, after his marriage to Catherine of Aragon had been declared invalid. Anne was crowned Queen of England at Westminster Abbey on 1 June 1533. She gave birth to a daughter, the future Elizabeth I, in September 1533, but failed to produce the male heir Henry wanted. Anne was accused of adultery, incest and treason in 1536, charges widely regarded by historians as politically motivated. She was executed by beheading at the Tower of London on 19 May 1536 and was buried in an unmarked grave.
