Anne was born on **6 February 1665** at St James’s Palace and became Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland in **1702**, succeeding William III. In **1707**, the Acts of Union united England and Scotland into the Kingdom of Great Britain, making Anne the first monarch of Great Britain. Her reign was dominated by the **War of the Spanish Succession**, during which Britain achieved major victories under the Duke of Marlborough. Anne married Prince George of Denmark and suffered numerous pregnancies, but none of her children survived infancy. She died on **1 August 1714** at Kensington Palace, aged 49. As she had no surviving heirs, the throne passed to George I of Hanover.
